Description
Lot of two rare pieces of ephemera from Frank Betz, Jr. Physician’s and Hospital Supplies, Hammond, Indiana. The first piece is a ca. 1939 foldout mailing brochure/catalog of medical supplies. Folded for mailing, this brochure measures approximately 10 ½" by 7". Fully unfolded this brochure becomes a two-sided advertising poster/broadside, measuring approximately 21" by 28". Although undated, ads for a “1939 Modernistic Self-Starting Desk Clock” and a “Frank Betz, Jr., New 1938 Deluxe Boston Physician Bag,” suggest that this piece dates to the late 1930s.
The second piece is a one-page bifold order form from Frank Betz, Jr. Physician’s and Hospital supplies. While this is most likely a form for ordering medical supplies, the reverse offers Betz’ customers 50% savings on “Matchless Handyhot Matched Appliances.” This piece measures approximately 8 ½" by 10 ½". Featured products include: Leitz microscopes; leather Boston medical bags; Murphy headlamps; therapeutic ultra-violet and infra-red lamps; scales; waiting room furniture; Renewal sterilizers; autoclaves; Vollrath Enamelware (bed pans, urinals, and pus basins); thermometers; massagers; vaporizers; stethoscopes; lister bandage scissors; a variety of forceps; surgeon’s scalpels; syringes; D & C Contraceptive supplies; and much more.
Both pieces are in good condition. Both show some age toning. The larger brochure has some edge chipping and several small holes, particularly along the fold lines.
