Description

ca. 1913 Two (2) Amusement Park Postcards featuring Riverview Park, Chicago, Illinois. It operated from 1904 to 1967 near the Chicago River. Both cards have Chromolithograph design ... the first one depicting the "Thousand Islands ride, which LATER, in 1950 became The Tunnel of Love.The card has a divided back, but it was never sent through the mail. It is in excellent condition. Card number 2 shows the scene from the top of the "Shoot the Chutes," which gives you a lovely view of the park and the Chicago landscape. The card is in very good condition. The corners are a bit more bumped. This card was sent through the mail in 1913 to a Miss Mami Williams in Ruchville, IN. Please see all of the photos above.

Very rare and historical "ca. 1913 Two (2) Amusement Park Postcards featuring "Riverview  Park," Chicago, Illinois."  Both Cards have a Chromolithograph design.   Riverview Park was an amusement park in Chicago, Illinois which operated from 1904 to 1967. It was located on 74 acres, bounded on the the west by the North Branch of the Chicago River (on Chicago's north side.)
Card number 1
is an  outstanding postcard entitled "Thousand Islands Ride at Riverside Park, Chicago."  The Thousand Islands ride would later became The Mill on the Floss. But to give you an idea of what type of ride it was, in 1950 it got a more piquant name -- The Tunnel of Love.
This card was published by the Franklin Post Card Co, Chicago, IL.  The card has a divided back, but was not used or sent through the mail.  It is in excellent condition.  The corners are a tad bumped, but the surfaces and edges are pristine.   The back is white with shocking pink printing.
Card number 2
shows the scene from the top of the Shoot-the-chutes Ride.  The riders got a wonderful view from the top of the park and the Chicago environs beyond.  Riverside exposition is situated on the northwest side of Chicago, and is the largest amusement park and what is the largest amuse park in Chicago. Hundreds of thousands of people passed through his gates during a summer during the summer months. Besides the mini rides and shows and entertainment daily and nightly concerts and bands.
The back of the card has quite a bit of writing, which makes it impossible to see the publisher.   And we'll let the new owner decipher the message.  The card WAS sent through the mail in 1913 to a Miss Mami Williams in Richville, IN.   is in very good condition.  The corners are more bumped than the first card, but the edges are smooth, and the surfaces pristine.  The image is clean, and crisp, with strong contrast and rich tonality.
Some of the more popular rides at Riverside-Park included Bobs roller coaster, The Comet, The Silver Flash, The Fireball and the Jetstream. Aladdin's Castle was a classic fun house with a collapsing stairway, and mazes. Shoot the Chutes, Hades, the Rotor, Tilt-a-Whirl, and Wild Mouse are just a few of the many classic rides. Riverview Park even got a mention a line from the Beach Boys' song "Amusement Parks U.S.A." from their 1965 Album. There were supposedly over 120 rides in the park at one time.
