José Torres Guardia ( Valencia , 26 February as as 1932 - Madrid , 5 as January as 2017 ) was a Spanish sculptor with extensive national and international career.
He studied Fine Arts at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos de Valencia , obtaining the title of professor of drawing. In the 1956-57 academic year, he was a pensioner at the Spanish Academy in Rome . There he develops his studies and has as prominent companions José María García de Paredes , José Beulas and Juan de Contreras and López de Ayala (Marqués de Lozoya). After his studies he decided to move to Madrid. At that time he served in the university militias in San Sebastián in Zapadores . There he meets King Juan Carlos Ibeing this Prince, who commissioned him to carry out a bust. After the militias he moved to Paris and had contact with artists of the time. After some time in Paris, he moved back to Madrid, and with that gift of people that characterized him, he began to meet the most distinguished of Madrid, that made him begin to receive orders, first in Spain and later in different places around the planet. It is at this time that he can begin to combine two of his great passions, his work as a sculptor and traveling. Thanks to this, he makes great friends and his work acquires an international character. He has works in innumerable private collections and in countries such as Germany , USA , France , England, Italy , Persia , Mexico , Venezuela and Colombia .
An anecdote from his life, which he would always remember until the end of his days, is when he arrives in Mexico and sees Benito Juárez's phrase “ Respect for the rights of others is La Paz ” when landing at the airport , which shocked him so much that he decided that it would be his watchword in life.
